Samsung – Simband Wearable Medical Device

Our Industrial Design partner Design Studio Nuovo engaged Powell Design to design the complete UX + UI for the Samsung Simband. The Simband was designed from the outset as a health band—not a smartwatch. Its focus is entirely on health tracking during clinical trials, collecting lots of data to share with medical researchers, doctors, and for personal health use.

Simband is open and modular, and comes loaded with medical sensors. It works with a variety of medical needs and with many sensor technologies, and works with SAMI, Samsung’s cloud-based solution for collecting and analyzing sensor-based health data.

Samsung’s Simband was the first platform with an open reference sensor module, built into an adjustable band integrating the industry’s most advanced sensing technologies from Samsung and partners around the globe. Based in Silicon Valley with offices in Korea, Israel and London, SSIC’s focus is on strategic initiatives in areas such as digital health, cloud computing, human-computer interface technologies, and the “Internet of Things,” among others.

Highlights:

  • Wearable specifically designed to support clinical trial research.
  • Monitoring Steps, Fitness, Heart Rate, Blood Pressure, Skin Temperature, ECG, etc.
